Teaching since Fall 2001 – 3rd year in 2nd grade

The superintendent told the principals that staff was not to leave before 3:30 on Friday. It was an early dismissal day for the kids, but a full day for the teachers. Maybe it is just me, but if I’m being paid for a full day I expect to work a full day. The griping is still ringing in my ears.

We were also voting on calendar options for next year. One has a Saturday workday for the last day of the teacher contract. I don’t see the problem. I would rather work that Saturday, and start summer with no interruptions. Boy you would think the calendar had us working every Saturday without compensation. Note this is something the staff is getting to VOTE on, district Site based committee then votes for their campuses, and the board listens to their recommendations.

I told one group that they need to start reading teaching blogs especially ones from NYC – we have it easy compared to what those teachers are going through. Be grateful that the rules about class size are being followed, our building is in good condition, and our administration is supportive.
