Continuing reading log for The Children in Room E4
In this section Jeremy’s teacher speaks about the odds against Jeremy going on to university. The elementary school Jeremy attends does very well on their state test. The Middle school and High school are some of the lowest ranking in the state. There is the additional problem of Jeremy lucking out and getting teachers who will continue to push him along.
That got me thinking about Southwestern, where I went to University. The elementary school were I teach has over 600 kids – that is almost 1/2 of the number of students attending Southwestern. The high schools in my district are large. The main one near me is over crowded – but a new one is being built to relieve the crowding.
