TAKS days have to be the most mind numbing days of the school year for teachers, not that they are any fun for students. Today was hard on all the grades. The little ones had to stay on their side of the school, and even ate lunch in the gym. For the first time since I started teaching, I can say I didn’t hear a peep out of the little ones. Saw some across the court yard once after 7:30. The school was absolutely silent, except for the cafeteria when 3rd, 4th, and 5th were eating.
I’m so glad our administrators didn’t go to the extreme other schools had. Our kids could breath and take a break at lunch. Homeroom teachers administered the test their homeroom students. Kids, who needed small group, were put with other staff members. I had one student who requested small group, I hope she did OK. One of the assigned small group testers had the sniffles and noise was disturbing her. I told the other student to go out and blow his nose. He seemed to try and keep it down after he was aware it was bothering others.
